Since opening in 1955, GSP Residence Hall has largely stood untouched, without any major upgrades. The University of Kansas chose McCownGordon through a qualifications-based selection process to lead the extensive renovation bringing the hall into the 21st century.
The team completely demolished the existing interior making way for the brand new infrastructure throughout. Construction included expansive MEP upgrades, tenant improvement, new lighting and new elevators. The team also completely renovated the bathrooms providing additional facilities for the students.
Another significant upgrade was converting the existing kitchen and dining facility to modern day standards. The facility services both the GSP and Corbin residence halls and received a complete overhaul to serve the campus. With significant daily traffic, serving more than 500 people per meal, the kitchen and dining areas underwent significant demolition and build back with replacement of all equipment, storage areas, preparation and serve areas, lines and layout of the overall facility.
