The project included both landside and airside building additions, work and improvements in both secure/sterile and public areas, and the addition of a new (TSA) passenger security screening area. In addition, Common Use Passenger Processing Systems were added and deployed for the first time at KCI, allowing the necessary IT infrastructure for any airline or carrier to utilize common outbound boarding facilities, gates, counters and PBB—a feature formerly limited to a single airline.
The complex, multi-phased project was completed in an operating terminal facility requiring substantial stakeholder and interagency communication, coordination and cooperation to not interfere or impact current airport operations. The project was completed on a fast-track schedule with a complex phasing plan.
