Enhancing the patient experience

The project included 23,230 square feet of remodeled labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum (LDRP) inpatient rooms and staff support areas. The renovation also included air handler replacement.

In addition, the space includes multiple cesarean section rooms where both emergency and scheduled surgical deliveries are performed. The C-section rooms in Unit 54 feature Phoenix valves (HVAC), critical power served through isolation panels and dedicated medical gas zones with finishes that include epoxy floors and wall protection. Overhead coordination was critical to ensure MEP components were coordinated properly with steel supports and ceiling mounted medical equipment.

Construction took place in an operational hospital, requiring strict adherence to Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) codes and the assurance of minimal disruption. Two C-section suites remained accessible and sterile at all times throughout construction, although the suites were within the renovation area.

The project team worked together to ensure these areas were sterile and safe, and paid careful attention to causing minimal disruption. Preparatory phases were completed prior to construction of the new patient rooms, which included secure corridors for pediatric/mother-baby temporary patient areas and clean travel paths to and from the C-section suites within the renovation area.
