Civic Submarkets

Community Gathering Spaces

Buildings like city halls, libraries, community centers, and aquatic centers offer essential spaces for residents to gather, socialize, and exercise. These facilities promote a healthier, happier, and more connected community, which is key to attracting and retaining proud residents. Engaging the community from the start of the project is vital. We prioritize community involvement and ensure the public stays informed throughout the project.

Libraries

Libraries aren’t just buildings that house books anymore; they are cornerstones of communities. Libraries bring people together, break cultural and economic barriers and give the community a safe place to gather, learn and grow. As a civic building, owned by the city or county municipality, we want visitors to have a sense of community pride and belonging to the new space. We engage the community throughout preconstruction and construction to promote the project and build excitement. As proud community builders, the best feeling is seeing the community gather to celebrate a new library.

Aquatics & Community Centers

McCownGordon understands aquatic facilities and what it takes to make them a reality. For instance, builders typically work with overhead modeling, but with pools, all of this coordination happens underground. Building aquatic facilities takes a different mind-set. The work is from the inside out as to not limit your access because of pools and decks. Planning of concrete pours and backfills must take obstructions into consideration. Aquatic facilities never reach the point of being dried in so the weather is always a factor. McCownGordon has experience with all of these unique nuances and has the arsenal of tools and expertise to overcome complex challenges.

Public Safety

Ensuring emergency personnel can respond swiftly is paramount to public safety. These facilities must be efficient, meeting all demands because every second counts. They also need to serve as a comfortable second home for firefighters and paramedics and provide a secure environment for police officers. A functional and calming space reduces occupational stress, with features like ample daylight in work areas and spaces for indoor and outdoor gym and recreational activities.

Lenexa Fleet Maintenance Facility

Fleet Maintenance + Public Works

While local residents notice the continuous roadwork, few recognize the vital work behind the scenes at public works offices. We understand the importance of these facilities, as they house the teams responsible for constructing, maintaining, and repairing local infrastructure.

Every municipality manages a fleet of vehicles and equipment across various departments. Fleet maintenance buildings are essential for providing a safe work environment where city employees can efficiently manage and service all government-owned vehicles.
