City of Blue Springs Blue Surf Bay Waterpark

Project Case Study
In 2021, the City of Blue Spring’s vision for a revitalized recreational space became a reality with the groundbreaking of the new 34,000 square foot Blue Surf Bay Waterpark. Funded by the renewed Parks Sales Tax, this state-of-the-art facility was designed by SFS Architecture and built by McCownGordon to meet the community's evolving needs.

Preconstruction

A collaborative preconstruction process allowed the city to maximize its budget. By strategically bidding out the aquatics package early, the McCownGordon team was able to provide valuable cost-saving insights throughout the project. Through meticulous analysis, over 130 cost options were presented to ensure the final design aligned with the city’s goals while staying within budget.

Indoor Aquatic Center

The indoor aquatic center, an extension of the existing Field House, offers a diverse range of amenities, including a four-lane lap pool with a rock-climbing wall, waterfall, and diving platforms. For a more adventurous challenge, visitors can try their hand at the Ninja Cross Course, suspended from the ceiling and dropping into the pool. A warm water lifestyle pool with a current channel is perfect for aquatic exercise, swim lessons, and leisure activities. Additional indoor features include a splash pad, water slide, sauna, hot tub, locker rooms, and community spaces.

Outdoor Waterpark

Outside, Blue Surf Bay Waterpark offers a thrilling array of attractions. A 40-foot slide tower with multiple slides, NinjaCross training system, a lazy river with an action channel, a wave-ball pool, and a zero-depth entry pool with a play structure ensure fun for all ages. A unique feature in the Midwest, the double surf simulator allows visitors to experience the thrill of knee boarding or stand-up surfing.

The project also included a new, welcoming main entrance for both the aquatics center and the existing field house. Throughout construction, McCownGordon maintained open communication with the city to minimize disruptions to the adjacent field house, ensuring a seamless transition for the community.

Blue Surf Water Park is more than just a recreational facility; it’s a vibrant community hub that offers something for everyone, from young families to fitness enthusiasts. This project showcases McCownGordon’s commitment to delivering exceptional results that exceed client expectations and enhance the quality of life for the community.
