City of Lenexa Indian Trails Aquatics Center

Project Case Study
The Indian Trails Aquatic Center needed a modernized update and renovation of the current amenities since the facility was over 45 years old. McCownGordon worked with the City of Lenexa to replace the existing facility with a multi-dimensional, optimal aquatics center for all ages.

The new aquatics center features a zero-depth entry pool, lazy river, slide tower, splash pad, family leisure activity pool, an eight lane-lap pool with a diving well and a variety of other recreational amenities. Renovations of the restroom facilities and concessions will provide a better, more enjoyable experience for the visitors. Another aspect of the project includes revitalizing the entry by reconfiguring a new parking lot and providing a welcoming aquatic center entrance.

The proactive approach from our preconstruction team allowed the City of Lenexa the opportunity to maximize their budget. Leveraging our aquatic experience, we worked closely with the design team to develop cost options to align the project within the set budget parameters. During preconstruction, our aquatics trade partner was onboarded early to provide additional support in value creation and helped mitigate risks by strategically releasing an early aquatics procurement package.

Located in the Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park, the aquatics center renovation project presents numerous site challenges including a condensed site with difficult access points. Our team was proactive and worked diligently to minimize disruption amidst city events and public gatherings at the park throughout construction. In addition to the aquatic center renovation, the project also includes improved parking and trail connectivity throughout the park. The leading-edge aquatic center will serve as a popular community attraction for years to come, providing entertainment for all ages.
