Derby High School
Derby High School received an extensive renovation as part of the 2017 $100M bond. Interior renovations included an administrative office remodel that will improve how staff and students use the office area. The auditorium received all new seating, flooring, lighting and finishes. Two banks of restrooms were renovated with new finishes and fixtures. Additional spaces of the renovation include corridors, atrium, commons, chemistry and culinary arts classrooms, media center, debate room and lecture hall.
Additions at Derby High School include the Panther Learning Center that doubles as a storm shelter (11,000 square feet). This space will support the diverse needs of students including non-traditional academic programs. The Panther Activity Center addition addresses overcrowding, particularly for physical education classes. The 26,000 square foot steel structure with brick exterior to match the rest of the high school includes a 70-yard indoor turf field, storage room, restrooms and concessions.
Additional projects included a variety of facility upgrades including restroom remodels, stadium upgrades, tennis court lighting, new administrative offices, high school multi-purpose PE spaces, HVAC replacement and upgrades to improve efficiency, and near full replacement schools.
With multiple job sites being coordinated at once, McCownGordon provided streamlined communication throughout the district.
